It's Simply a Matter of Perspective: A Forest Vlog with a Nikon D850
Переглядів 46 тис.Місяць тому
In this photography vlog I photograph an 'average' section of forest, continuing to build a collection of intimate scenes encapsulating the characteristics and small details of the woods. With a Nikon D850, a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG HSM Macro Lens, and a Nikon 24-120mm f/4 lens on hand, I explore the idea that there is potential for great photos everywhere, it's only a matter of perspective! I tried Super Macro Photography... and struggled!
Переглядів 142 тис.Місяць тому
In this video, I have a go at Super Macro Photography for the first time, with the Laowa f/2.8 2.5-5x Ultra Macro Lens and a NiSi NM-200s Focusing Rail. I stumble across a few tiny subjects, including a Salmon egg slime mould, but struggle to control my environment to achieve a successful photo stack. I'd love to turn this into a project, to fine tune the process and simply try again! Have you ...

Join me on this adventure and let me know your thoughts on this topic too! A b...

    I've found that the greater the magnification, the more stable the camera and subject need to be. I bet if you placed the wood and tripod on a hard surface you'd have better results. I also built a collapsable/ hinged with tape, three sided with top box of plexiglass that I put around my subject to eliminate/ reduce air movement. There is something to be said for working in your house with your subjects so there is a very stable platform, controlled lighting, and zero air movement.

    Did Nikon actually sell many of this expensive D750 ? it was a bit of a strange release , when mirrorless was the go too for video. You couldn't even put a vertical grip on the D750. This was a very odd camera. D850 still is a great allrounder today and takes full sized batteries in the optional vertical grip for extended run times remarkably , the brand new Z8 doesn't uses just the smaller batteries . This is really disappointing. The D850 is still amazing and great value camera in 2024 .

    such a nice story, Courtney. It helped me to decide, I want to upgrade from my old D40 that I used for the last decade, because its mirror has broken. And I keep looking at D8XX or D7/6XX. I like the D7XX or D6XX form, it's smaller than D8XX. But, I wish Nikon updated the firmware so we can shoot a 4:5 crop in D7/D6XX.

Do you have any equipment that you no longer use? Maybe you could give it to me. Thank you in advance. Warm greetings from Bogor, Indonesia 😊

    That old church was beautiful. I moved to Australia in 2000, i'd just turned 20. I've realised over the years that all those old buildings and all that history just lying around, i just took for granted. Never give it a passing thought back in the day. Dont see much like that over here in Australia.

    I am surprised at what a 10x macro on an old iPhoneX. Can do on video! Hand held! Anyway…I do rock Core. So I want a 20x but they seem iffy…1-2 lenses. A triplet is rare and a guess really. So I got an old B&L 30x microscope eyepiece. Now how to strap it on? Glue it to a clip? I use dinolights with some success. They are good with image stacking but the optics are furry. I hate experiments that cost $1500 each so I got dinolite to shoot some core using axial lighting and ran the power up to 900x. Still furry. I am looking at samples of copper sulfide knots entangled with black material. I would love a reflected light axiolab scope but at $15,000? Eh.

      @milenaresources4244 9 днів тому

      Oh…the 10x is a Moment lens. They are triplets like a good hand lens. Now…there are very good 20x hand lenses. They go for about $125. Maybe I should glue one to a clip! Anyway…the eyepiece was only $45. First things first.

    I’ve used Affinity Photo for fairly good results. To compensate for images with varied lighting, you can adjust the exposure if in RAW format. The main problem with varied lighting is that some images may be less diffuse lighted, others more. But if the exposure doesn’t need to be pushed too much, and if you use Base ISO, you can get away with a fairly good image if the lighting in none of the images isn’t diffuse enough, because non-diffuse light can cause specular reflections. Possibly, it may be the best idea to use an intervalometer to set enough seconds between images to give yourself time to change focus & to let the camera settle without vibration. Another idea is to slowly turn the knob while using continuous burst mode, while using a fast shutter speed so that camera movement doesn’t show. You may need to know the buffer of the camera to know how many images can be done before shutter lag starts. Main advantage of studio setting is that you can use a particularly strong light source to be able to make for quick shutter speed; otherwise, for best results, use base ISO and use software to increase exposure; the advantage of using a camera that’s ISO invariant is that pushing the exposure in software yields less noise than increasing ISO.

    I have the same combination, Laowa lens with the NISI rail. It's so sensetive to any movenet that as some wrote here, you need to wait between each rotation of the rail control to let it set. doing this in field is very ambitious, especially for the first time use of the set. Even the micro movements of the tripod can influence the sharpenss.
